DESCRIPTION
A week is a long time in politics, but six days can destroy democracy...
It should be the happiest days for former special forces agent Drew Connor. Out walking in New Hampshire's White Mountains with his girlfriend Sheila Cass, he has butterflies in his stomach and an engagement ring in his pocket. Then a thunderstorm hits, and they take shelter in what Sheila thinks is a relay station for a state utility. But when Drew enters the building, he realizes they have stepped into something far more sinister.
Bullet-proof checkpoints. Telephone hotlines. A sign by a map that reads INTERNMENT CENTERS. And on a whiteboard a large, handwritten message CASE SHILOH ON 9/19 WE TAKE HER BACK! Drew's instinct is to get Sheila out as quickly as possible, and when they stop at a general store, and the police open fire without asking questions, his worst fears are confirmed. Someone wants them dead for what they have seen.
And as Drew and Sheila discover, they have stumbled on a plot to kill the president and overthrow the American government, a plan that is to take place in just six days time. With the conspirators claiming they are terrorists on the run, Drew knows it is going to be hard enough just to stay alive, let alone put a stop to this most deadly of political schemes...
By the award-winning author of RESURRECTION DAY and TWILIGHT, SIX DAYS is a 'what-if' thriller of chilling credibility, a terrifying tale of what can happen when power games are mistaken for politics, and paranoia for patriotism.

Six Days eBook Brendan DuBois
I hesitated in buying this book for a while...the description didn't do a lot for me, but I was looking for something to read and I've read a book by this author and thought I'd give it a shot.I'm happy I did.
It's a fast paced thriller with everything you'd expect from a Tom Clancy or similar author's novel.
My only regret is that it concludes without a sequel...a positive in one way (how many Kindle books simply set you up to buy the next one these days) but a negative because I would love to see more books with these characters.
You won't regret buying it.

Six Days eBook Brendan DuBois Reviews
Page Turner. Got involved with the main characters. Plausible plot for these times. Bad guys get what they got coming. Good guys survive, happily. Close shaves. Twists and turns. Explosions, gun fights. Plots. Betrayals. Surprises in the nick of time. What's not to like?
The book was fairly well written, but the conspiracy theory aspect was overdone, to the point of bothering me. I liked the two major characters, but I somehow couldn't get into the story completely. I'm not sure that I will buy more books by the author, unless I use the free sample first.
I read another of Mr. Dubois books, loved it, gave it five stars but did note other reviewers negative comments on the kindle format. This book was good but the format was distractingly annoying. Multiple plot line with no physical/digital separation at all. Reading one plot line goes without separation into another. After this happens multiple times, well, come on.....sell it corrected!
This book was an interesting take on a pre 9/11 America more paranoid about militias taking over than foreign attack.
great story line
Another fantastic book by Dubois and I've read several. He is one great storyteller! Very difficult to put down once you begin to read.
Brendan Dubois' "Six Days" is a mostly well-written thriller about a former Special Forces operative who stumbles upon a plan by radical right-wing elements in the government and military to seize control of the U.S. The title recalls the great thriller Seven Days in May written by Fletcher Knebel & Charles W. Bailey II in 1962, and the book has some similar themes.
The book was written in 2002 and takes place in the near future. American power is in decline and the economy is hurting. Dubois' hero here is Drew Conner, a former Special Forces vet turned military contractor who has retired to New Hampshire after a traumatic battlefield experience and is camping in the woods with his girlfriend, Sheila. As they are hiking back to their car after several days in the woods, Drew and Sheila stumble upon a small, unmanned, unmarked concrete bunker that looks like a military command center. Unbeknownst to them, the bunker is part of a plan by a group of hard core religious right-wingers to stage a coup and take over the U.S. A plan that will occur in 6 days. The novel follows Drew and Sheila as they move from being unwitting players in the game to the two who can stop they whole thing.
What Dubois does best here is the world-building. This America is taking in refugees from a Quebecois civil war in Cadana, gas is expensive and the President has not been seen in public for some time since a very unfortunate incident involving the White House Rose Garden. There was a nuclear war between India and Pakistan, which is fleshed out a bit in some terrifying flashbacks. It's an alternate American future as seen through 2002. The only problems I had with the book involved the dialog and the cliched nature of the characters. Dubois hits the read over the head with the reason the bad guy we spend most of the book with wants to help the villains "take back" America, Suffice to say, Dubois does not think much of the Religious Right or militias. Also, another character in the book might as well be Colin Powell, and Drew's internal dialog sounds a bit off to my ear, always referring to Sheila as "his woman", like it's a western or something, But the fast-paced nature of the book, the twists and turns, and the final outcome, are all well-written, and given who the villains are and their plan for their coup, the plot is easy enough to believe. This book is not as strong as Dubois' alternate history of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Resurrection Day or his series of mysteries, but it's a solid read and for $2.99 on the , quite a good deal.
